2. Favorite CHAUVET® YouTube video.
I recently watched Gobo’s Made Easy CHAUVET® LFS-5 & Gobo Zoom™ with DJ Mikey Mike & Direct Sound where he reviews Gobo Zoom™ LED and LFS-5. Any video showing CHAUVET® products is a favorite of mine.

3. Favorite DJ.
DJ AM. I saw him live in Las Vegas and he was one of the first mainstream DJs to incorporate mashups into his set. He inspired me.

4. Favorite event/nightclub with lights.
Moon Nightclub at the Palms Hotel Casino Resort in Las Vegas.  The club has awesome lights and a retractable roof.

5. Favorite tip for new CHAUVET® DJs.
Don’t be intimidated to ask for tips and help.  If other DJs don’t inspire you, you are in the wrong business.

6. Complete this sentence: A show without lights is like…
A show without lights is like watching a Pay-Per-View boxing fight without sound — boring and not exciting.

CHAUVET® DJ goes to Kingston Bagpuise House

Pete Hedges, owner of Instant Replay II Mobile Disco in the UK, shared a photo of his setup with us on Facebook. In addition to other gear, he used one MotionDrape™ LED, two Mega Trix™ effect lights and two Hurricane™ 700 fog machines to light a wedding reception at the Kingston Bagpuise House and Garden near Abingdom, Oxfordshire.

6 Questions for Kamil Nowak

Congratulations to our August Facebook Fan of the Month, Kamil Nowak. Nowak, who is a full-time student, is originally from Poland and lives in Wallington, N.J. As a college sophomore, he works as a part-time web developer for a small marketing firm and is interested in anything computer related including DJing, graphics, video and web design. Nowak has a passion for lighting and is interested in everything from emergency vehicle lighting to DJ and club lighting.

“It’s amazing what light is capable of,” Nowak said. “It has so many uses and I feel that far too often, we take it for granted. “

1. Favorite CHAUVET® light/product.
COLORrail™ IRC.  I think it speaks for itself, but COLORrail™ IRC has the capability to wash almost any area with multi-colored light.  Whether you’re washing a dance floor, wall or performers, you will get a bright output and transform any event.  Plus, built-in chase patterns and programs double as an additional effect and provide your audience with extra eye candy.

2. Favorite CHAUVET® YouTube video.
Intimidator™ Spot LED 350 by CHAUVET® DJ is probably my favorite video — it captures the capabilities and features of the fixture perfectly.  I wanted to go buy a pair of them immediately after watching the video.

3. Favorite DJ.
My favorite DJ is Ean Golden.  His website is very informative and offers great advice and tutorials.  He essentially set up a community where both new and experienced DJs can learn from each other while sharing tips and tricks.

4. Favorite event/nightclub with lights.
Considering I’m still under 21 and can’t really get into any nightclubs, I’m going to have to skip this question.  However, any event or venue able to completely transform its look and create a spectacular show using lighting gets two thumbs up from me.

5. Favorite tip for new CHAUVET® DJs.
Buy once, cry once.  Meaning, buy high quality gear the first time, and if it breaks down a few years down the road, you’ll be crying because you miss the gear, not because you wasted your money on junk.

6. Complete this sentence: A show without lights is like…
A show without lights is like a movie without the video.

Congratulations to our July Facebook Fan of the Month, Noah Lis. Lis, who is a senior at a small state university in Mass., is a local entertainer, singer, songwriter and musician. He provides entertainment for more than 140 events per year and is intrigued by live concert productions.

“I consider myself to be a bit of a “gear nut.” It is amazing to see the dynamics and energy produced by a talented group of musicians, good sound, vibrant lighting and an excited audience.” Lis said.

1. Favorite CHAUVET® light/product.
My favorite CHAUVET® light product has to be my Q-Spot™ 260-LED. They are bright enough to cut through any amount of wash I have on stage, have smooth movement and feature a number of different gobos and effects that never seem to get old. They are only limited to the creativity of their operator.

2. Favorite CHAUVET® YouTube video.
My favorite is the Q-Wash™ 560Z-LED product video. I own these fixtures and chose this video because it really demonstrates the finesse, power and professionalism that went into the construction of this fixture.

3. Favorite DJ.
I’m not huge into the DJ scene but I can certainly appreciate the work they do. I prefer seeing live music and three of my favorite artists, are Elton John, Billy Joel, and Robbie Williams. They have spoken to me through my own music and song writing.

4. Favorite event/nightclub with lights.
Lighting the Christian rock group IONA. The band came over from the UK for a North American tour and gave me free reign to program scenes and movements. The show ended up being a huge success.

5. Favorite tip for new CHAUVET® DJs.
Go with CHAUVET® — they are the best bang for your buck. When I provide lighting, my philosophy is ‘the brighter the better.’

My favorite product is the Hurricane™ Flex 1800 fog machine. It performs as advertised and is one of the most durable fog machines on the market. My favorite product, which I don’t own yet, is ShowXpress™. I’ve had the opportunity to work with it and look forward to having my own software.

2. Favorite CHAUVET® YouTube video.
DJ Mikey Mike demos CHAUVET® DJ Nimbus™

4. Favorite event/nightclub with lights.
I’m a big fan of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) because of their light show. It’s easy to gain an appreciation for lighting watching what these guys do six nights a week.

5. Favorite tip for new CHAUVET® DJs.
It’s a terrible feeling when you’re DJing an event 100 miles from home and a cable quits working. It’s even worse when you realize you don’t have a spare. Make sure you’re always prepared and have spare parts.

6. Complete this sentence: A show without lights is like…
A show without lights is just like another friend bringing an iPod hooked up to a boom box.

Any of the product demo videos. I watch them anytime I am looking for a new fixture.

3. Favorite DJ:
Karl Detken. He’s one cool guy and he works for CHAUVET®.

In terms of lighting, I think the most impressive event I’ve been to would be either a Third Day or Michael Bublé concert. Both had massive amounts of lighting.

5. Favorite tip for new CHAUVET® DJs:
Do your research. Lighting is changing all the time and you want to get the right to meet your needs. I use the CHAUVET® DJ Facebook page religiously to find out what others are doing.

A church without Jesus, or Disney World without Mickey Mouse.

CHAUVET® Lights Easter Service

Arc Thames shared this photo with us on our Facebook page! The Lighthouse Pro and Santa Rosa Sound Production provided lighting during Coastline Calvary Chapel’s Easter services at the Saenger Theatre in Pensacola. Two SlimPAR™ Pro Tri and two COLORdash™ Batten wash lights illuminate the drum set. Two more COLORdash™ Batten fixtures placed behind the scrim, which was located at the bottom of the stage, created a soft glow.

6 Questions for Lucas Beine

Congratulations to our April Facebook Fan of the Month, Lucas Beine. Originally from Jackson, Missouri, Beine owns STS Mobile Productions and has been using DMX to program light shows since 2000. He loves how lighting enhances shows and does a lot of work for bands and nightclubs.

“You can have a bad-ass performer rockin’ out on stage, but they will be in the dark without a lighting guy,” Beine said. “Plus, I love hearing people talk about the show, lights and all, at the end of the night.”

Read on and get to know more about our loyal fan!

1. Favorite CHAUVET® light/product and why:
My favorite CHAUVET® light would be my old school Intimidators™. I mean, come on! These were the first fixtures in the series and they are still rockin’. I love the micro-stepping motors for their smooth scan and sweep.

2. Favorite CHAUVET® YouTube video:
I can’t say that I have a favorite YouTube video because I really don’t watch online videos that much. I spend most of my time spinning records and programming lights with my kids.

3. Favorite DJ and why:
My all-time favorite DJ is Aphrodite. Back in the 90s, his music got me into playing drums and bass which in turn got me into sound and lighting. If you want a gig as a musician or DJ in Jackson, you have to come with the sound and lighting package if you want to be heard.

4. Favorite event/nightclub with lights:
The OZ Nightclub in St Louis has a bad ass light show, and so did the Tool concert. At the concert, I was more in love with the number of moving yokes and paid more attention to the lighting than the concert itself. Radiohead also has a sick light show — the LED panels on the back of the stage were bad ass.

5. Favorite tip for new CHAUVET® DJs:
Well new CHAUVET® DJs, my tip to you is to simply enjoy it because running lights and DJing is a lot of fun.

6. Complete this sentence: A show without lights is like…
A show without lights is simply not a show!
